The Making Of A Mannequin

August 6, 2008 at 12:29 pm (art, movies/video/clips, neat things) (, )

From MAKE, here’s a short, spooky documentary called 34 x 25 x 36, how about and why mannequins are made. The information is very interesting, but it’s worth watching just for those images of rows and piles of perfect plastic body parts.

It’s part of a larger project currently in the works by director Jesse Epstein.

I hate that. How do we move past this consumer culture fantasy when our senses are constantly being saturated with these false images of what to value? I can imagine that people of lesser education than I (or whatever) accept these images as goals, in effect, setting themselves up for constant failure, isolation from self, and unhappiness. Empower yourself by selling, not buying! Make something….

That was a great short; extremely well done … had something of a 1970s vibe for me … insightful without being preachy.
