DIY Paper from Junk Mail

April 3, 2008 at 10:15 am (art, neat things)

Via Craft, check out this useful tutorial for turning junk mail into paper. Anecdotally, a high school science experiment of sorts in a similar vein resulted in paper that was rough and stiff–not good for the written word or paper airplanes, but a lovely texture and medium for arts projects. I’m sure that with the proper tweaking of the production process, and patient trials and errors, the proper consistency and flexibility for whatever desired purpose may be achieved.

This tutorial is part of The {New New} York Etsy Street Team’s month-long Earth Day celebration, which means that similarly relevant posts on greening should be anticipated.

You know what else you can do with junk mail (and plastic wrappers, etc)? You can weave a neat-o basket! That’s what I’m working on right now. You can also fold origami orbs, but I don’t know how to do that.
