San Diego Mayor Explaining His Change of Heart About Same-Sex Marriage

September 20, 2007 at 2:19 pm (amazing things, LGBT, movies/video/clips, politics) ()

I found this over at Letters From Gehenna, and then my aunt Stephanie sent me another link to it. It’s a video of the mayor of San Diego, Jerry Sanders, explaining why, at the very last moment, he decided to sign a resolution passed by the city council in support of same-sex marriage.

It’s a rare and beautiful moment of complete human decency from a politician. The people of San Diego are lucky to have such a person as their mayor. I hope other politicians (coughObamaClintonEdwardscough) will see this and remember that leaders should be moral and courageous, not cowardly and self-serving.

Thank you for retaining your humanity, Mr. Sanders! I admire you for taking such a stand.

Watch the video.

    Awesome !!!!

Politicians could learn a lot from Mayor Sanders. Decency, honesty and listening to your heart are very attractive qualities.

That was beautiful. You could see a couple emotions playing over his face. He was nervous, excited, and proud. You could see his 30 years of experience asking him why it took so long.

And his love for his daughter exclaiming “finally!”.

Watching a changed heart speak touches your own. What a hopeful thing.
