AIDS Vaccine

Could this be a cure? Or at least an effective preventative? DNAVEC Corp., based in Tsukuba, Japan and in association with the AIDS Vaccine Initiative, has developed a vaccine that completely prevents infection of the AIDS virus in monkeys, as well as slowing it down in monkeys who were previously infected. Human testing will begin in about 3 years.

IAVI, DNAVEC’s partner, has tested six previous vaccines in countries such as Thailand. So maybe this kind of medical breakthrough is not all that uncommon, but I still think that something which can prevent the virus completely, even in monkeys, is pretty fucking fantastic.
