Art Made Of Old Books

September 28, 2008 at 2:11 pm (art, neat things) ()

Check out this collection of images of artwork made of books. Some of it is gorgeous, and all of it is interesting and worth a look. Among the pieces are “book autopsies” by Brian Dettmer, which we’ve mentioned here before. Some of my favorites in the bunch are Cara Barer’s photographs:

More of Barer’s work here. She adds the comforting disclaimer, “No important books have been injured during the making of any of these photographs,” using useless manuals Windows 95.

’90’s Flashback #12

September 27, 2008 at 10:30 am ('90s flashbacks, movies/video/clips, music)

“Steal My Sunshine,” by Len.

Note: Unfortunately, we are not able to embed many of the ’90’s Flashback youtube videos we’ve chosen recently. We may decide only to post those that we can embed, or link to youtube like we did in this post if we think the song’s worth it.

“Immortal McHorror”

September 26, 2008 at 9:51 pm (frightening things) (, )

A lovely story today via Boing Boing.

Karen Hanrahan teaches a workshop called “Healthy Choices for Children,” aimed at parents concerned about the foods their kids are eating.

One of her favorite teaching tools is a McDonald’s hamburger which she bought in the year 1996. It’s an effective example of what not to eat or feed your children, you see, because it has remained remarkably unchanged for the past 12 years. See for yourself.

People always ask mewhat did you do to preserve it ?

Nothing – it preserved itself.

(Emphasis hers). Yowza!

Just put up my first real post at Revolutionary Act, posing that question and offering my answer. Head over there if you’d like to answer it and talk about the topic with me and everybody else.

Pinhole Camera Made From 150-yr-old Skull

September 25, 2008 at 5:07 pm (art, neat things) (, , )

Take a look at this thing and the equally spooky pictures it produces. It was made by Wayne Martin Belger. Definitely explore his site, and take particular note of his other cameras as well. Wow! I’m fascinated.

Question, though: where did he get that skull, do you think?
